REHWA and Gudi Mudi
According to a survey conducted by
WomenWeave in 2014, Maheshwar today
has approximately 2,400 weavers. Most are
native to Maheshwar and about 80 families
have migrated from regions in and around
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh because they find both
wages and communal conditions far better in
Maheshwar than in their native place.
In 2003, as REHWA matured, WomenWeave
Charitable Trust was formed with an excellent
and devoted board of eight trustees. WWCT
opened its centre in Downtown Maheshwar
with just a few looms and spinning machines
(AMBA chakras).
The WW goal was to give work to non-
traditional weaver women through an
integrated programme of field to fashion.
