DABU
Dabu is a specialised form of hand-block printing rendered by a mud resist process. It has traditionally
been practised in Bagru, a small town about 30 kilometres from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Bagru is famous
for three styles of hand-block printing namely Fadat, Bagru and Dabu. In Dabu printing, pre-decided
motifs or parts of a motif are hand-block printed with clay to take on the base colour of the fabric
or the colour in which the fabric has been dyed, and then the fabric is dyed. The process is repeated
if additional colours are required for the pattern. Thus, the technique involves multiple processes and
is carried out over several days. Traditionally, floral motifs are most popular on Dabu printed textiles;
however craftspersons are now printing an array of motifs reflective of their creativity. The textile
