Paramparik Karigar | Bandhani
M
y father Khatri Jakariya Umar Terai was born in 1947
in the village of Tera in Abdasa tehsil in the Kutch
district of Gujarat. Though the family was well-off, his
mother passed away when he was very young and this changed
the family’s situation and he was unable to attend school. At the
young age of eight he went to Mumbai with his uncle Usman
Khatri and learnt the traditional craft of Bandhani that had been
practised by his father and forefathers.
A well-known textile that comes to life with a
burst of colours, Bandhani is a legacy practised
by an ace craftsman that has brought interna-
tional acclaim to it.
