Our craft is as much about living legends and
symbolism as it is about skill and experience.
One of the popular stories that explains the
migration of the Meghwal weavers from
Rajasthan to Gujarat is that the daughter of
an affluent Rabari family in Rajasthan was
married to a groom from Kutch. As a part of
the dowry, a weaver accompanied the bride so
he could weave the textiles and garments she
would require in her new home. The weaver’s
family grew and eventually formed a large
community that spread to diverse settlements
in Kutch giving the region its rich weaving
community.
According to another account, the deeply
revered Shri Ramdev Peer was once on a
pilgrimage from Rajasthan when he visited
Narayan Sarovar in Kutch. Some followers
– who were goldsmiths in Faradi in Mandvi
