Paramparik Karigar | Nanji Bhimji
A
s a child growing up in the village of Mota Bandara
in Kutch, Gujarat in the 1970s, I closely observed my
family members weaving cotton and woollen yarns. We
belong to the Marwada-Meghwal
community that had migrated
from Rajasthan to Gujarat, generations ago. Our community
has traditionally been a weaving community involved with
hand-weaving a range of patterned blankets, shawls and drapes
bearing traditional motifs and patterns.
Traditional hand-weaving has a rich history
that has helped it achieve great success.
